Objective

The Graduate Program in Biodiversity and Use of Natural Resources (Master’s level since 2006 and Doctorate since 2024 – Academic modality) aims to train highly qualified professionals capable of addressing the interdisciplinary aspects of activities related to understanding biodiversity components and the processes that organize them, whether natural or anthropogenic; as well as activities related to the conservation and prospecting of biodiversity, mainly aiming at its sustainable use as an important element of regional development.

Mission

The PPG-BURN’s mission is to produce scientific knowledge, train qualified human resources, and promote the conservation and sustainable use of local and regional biodiversity in an interdisciplinary manner, including multiple sectors of society. Graduates are expected to be highly qualified professionals (Master or PhD) capable of working in various areas related to biodiversity conservation, natural resource management, research, and environmental education.

History

The Graduate Program in Biodiversity and Use of Natural Resources (PPG-BURN) at Unimontes was created in 2006 as a Biological Sciences Program. After reformulations and a change of area to Biodiversity, it received its current name in 2016. In the 2017–2020 quadrennial evaluation it received grade 4, and in 2024, it launched its first PhD class recommended by CAPES.
